A Short History of the Mission
In 1931 a group of Christian Men of varying ages, had a burden for preaching the Gospel in the City of Glasgow and thus began the work of the Evangelical Gospel Mission. Services were held in various halls over the years until it was later located at 121 Duke Street and for many years there was a work carried out with children and adults. People in those days had a healthy respect for the Lord. Even throughout the war years the work continued. After the war there was a great work among the young people of the area.
In 1961 the building was sold to new owners who fortunately were sympathetic enough to the work of the mission and arranged with the Glasgow Corporation that we move to 21 Duke Street. This work continued until the redevelopment of the Townhead area, when houses were demolished and families move out of the city to new housing schemes.. When the new houses were constructed, they were for adult occupancy only, so the children's work ended.
The work of the mission changed then and we saw more and more adults, in particular, men and women who lived in model lodging houses and on the street or where they could find some shelter, coming to the mission. Tea and buns were supplied at all services and the Gospel was preached.
In 1981, the building at 21 Duke Street came under renovation and for over a year we held our services in the Evangelical Church, Cathedral Square until we were given rented accommodation at 269 High Street where we are today. First service was held in May 1983.
Our God was good to us in supplying all the finance, (which we did not have.) Many Christian Fellowships and Trusts throughout the city, gave of their finances and time to enable us to meet the required safety standards and to make the premises as attractive and comfortable as possible. For this we give God the Glory. e-mail

Statement of Faith
We are a fellowship of believers, who are entirely separate from the Ecumenical movement and completely free from errors of Liberalism, or the Charismatic movement.
We believe, the Holy Bible in it's entirety is the inspired Word of God (2 Tim 3:16.)
We believe the Bible Doctrine of the fall of man, that every human being by nature is sinful and needs, but cannot merit, salvation. ( TOTAL DEPRAVITY OF MAN.)
We believe the Virgin birth of Jesus Christ. His substitutionary sacrifice on the cross to redeem mankind, His resurrection, ascension and personal return.
We believe in the Deity of Christ and in the Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe a person must be born again of God's Spirit (regeneration), that this is faith in and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Saviour. Justification by faith, not by works.
We believe Jesus Christ will come again in Power and Glory.
We believe the Church is a called out group of believers, "Called out the world unto Christ," formed for the purpose of Worship and Evangelism. (Eph. 5: 26, 27.)
We believe in the Holy Spirit is the Agent who convicts the unsaved of sin and their need of Salvation in Christ Jesus.
We believe in the resurrection of the dead, the judgement of the world by the Lord Jesus Christ. The Eternal blessedness of the Believer and the Eternal Punishment of the unbeliever.
We believe in the Institution of the Lords Table and Baptism.

WORLD MISSIONS

We support the wider mission work throughout the world particularly Moldova Ministries. Pray for the Moldova Ministries Team as they continue the work in Eastern Europe. Since perestroika, God has added thousands to His Church in Moldova.
Other Ministry Interest

Healthcare Christian Fellowship - In 1951Francis Grim visited Scotland with God's vision for the health fields. Over the years this vision has gripped the hearts of individuals and groups.
Health field workers began to see their place of work as a vast mission field, and realised it was their responsibility as Christians to fulfil the Great commission as where God had placed them.
"Therefore go and make disciples..." Matthew 28:19,20.
In 1987, Hospital Christian Fellowship of Scotland became a formally constituted body and a Registered Charity.
It is directed and guided by a National Action Team (Committee) consisting of full-time staff and health field personnel.

Word for today
" Romans 6:23 (KJV) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. "
" Romans 6:23 (ASV) For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. "
" Romans 6:23 (NIV) For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. "
" Romans 6:23 (NKJV) For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
------NOTE------
You are free to choose between two masters: sin or Christ Jesus. The wages of sin is eternal death. That is all you can expect or hope for in life without God. By choosing Christ as your master, you receive his gift of eternal life—new life with God that begins on earth and continues forever with God. What choice have you made?
How true this is, I hope that all of you have made the decision to follow Jesus, if not, please don't wait any longer!

TO GOD BE THE GLORY
TESTIMONY TIME
Everyone has a story to tell; we Christians have a real story to tell. If you have like to share your story we would like to here from you.
Lets hear from Flo Christie one of our members what the Lord is doing in her life-
Before 1989 I never knew about the Lord or Jesus dying on the cross for my sins. I had been brought up in a non-Christian home and the only time Christ was mentioned was in a blasphemous way.
I was involved in Spiritualism and for about six years would have went everywhere and anywhere trying to find answers to so many unanswered questions. After one particular meeting I felt quite strange and knew that something wasn't right. I went to bed and had a terrifying experience; I was shaking and crying. I pleaded with God, "If He was out there to help me." Immediately I knew He had helped me. I could feel the calm and assurance of His presence. I didn't know how to pray, and the 23rd Psalm and the Lord's prayer were jumbled together, as at that time I didn't know they were separate. I changed immediately from an aggressive, swearing wee tornado to a more calm relaxed person, who didn't really understand what had happened to her.
I joined a local church and in 1990 I was baptised. At one of the Billy Graham meetings during Mission Scotland 91. I went forward and rededicated my life to the Lord.
After reading an advertisement in a local newspaper, about gospel meetings being held in High Street Mission; my friend and I went along where we were made so welcome. I feel that the Lord has led me there as my spiritual awareness and growth in Faith has been so evident in my life. I felt that through the preaching and teaching of the Word in High Street, they are reaching those of us who hunger for the Word and fellowship of other people who are in the Saviour.
I just thank and praise the Lord for taking me out of the miry pit, and setting me firmly on the rock. Amen.

What is SCITH? I hear you say, well it stands for 'Single Christian in the Household' ( this is not a singles club) you may be in a home situation that other family members may not be Christian. So many times we have so much to share and no one to share it with. We link up with others as an email befriender service.

HOW TO GET TO HEAVEN FROM HERE?
When will we get out of this mess?
How will we get out of this mess?
Those are the two key questions we asked as we see our community polluted with drink, drugs and family disharmony. Many folk ask the same questions about life and God.
Is there really a Creator and Designer? Does He have a blueprint for my life? Is Jesus really the Way, the Truth and the Life? (John 14 v 6.)
It is the personal relationship that counts. You may know a man, or know about him, but if you have no personal relationship with him, the acquaintance is of little value. To have a bright and eternal future we have to have the right relationship with Jesus Christ in the here-and-now! We may be church members, be very orthodox, and do good deeds, but if the relationship does not exist, He will say to us as He will say to others " I never knew you" (Matthew 7 v 23.) which means, of course, that we never knew Him.
Have you the right relationship with Him? Or is He just like a Heavenly Hall Porter, called in when the baggage of life gets too heavy. He should be living within all our hearts. Someone recently said "there are in too many churches in our community." Could it be that there aren't so many God-loving and God-fearing people to fill them? Satan is trying hard to keep people out of churches. God has given us two choices, either to accept Him or reject Him. Why not join those who are finding God in this community.
Jesus told us He would return again, not to seek the lost, but for those ready and waiting for Him. That could be any time. Are you ready and waiting for that moment? There is no second chance. The Bible tells us "now is the time of God's favour, now is the day of salvation." (2 Corinthians 6 v 2). Christ stands at the door of our lives, like a perfect gentleman patiently waiting for our response. (Revelation 3 v20.)
How do you view your community?
How do you think God views it?
Are you looking heaven-ward-and moving heavenward? This is realism not escapism. Are you living in real relationship with Him? Or are you without the joy of His peace and protection, assurance and hope. God has given us His Guidebook, the Bible, and the beginning of our relationship with Him is to read it!
You will find it is more up to date than the Daily Newspaper. His Word tells us are that Jesus is the same yesterday, day and forever, (Hebrews 13 v 8.)
Take the advantage of this opportunity to make a fresh start. Repent - That is change your mind and change your direction.
U - turn towards God. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. Come and join others in their churches and help to keep it a strong and stable community.
Join others on their way to God's Heavenly Kingdom and may the Lord richly bless you.
This was compiled by- Ivor McClure 1991 as an outreach in his local community - It has been altered slightly for a wider readership. The publisher was pleased of the response when it was first circulated. Tract ministry has always been appreciated- God's words says- " Cast your bread upon the waters and you shall find it after many days. (Eccl: 11 v 1)." Feel free to copy and use it anyway as you wish.
